ChampionX is seeking a Principal Chemist to join our team in Aberdeen, UK to develop and advance technical platforms satisfying both business and customer needs. In this role, you will be responsible for performing and leading research, development and problem-solving projects to enable new product and platform development. You will work closely with anchor and divisional RDE teams to design, execute and communicate results. We are seeking candidates who have strong collaboration and teamwork skills, are self-motivated, have good communication skills, are creative problem solvers, and possess strong observation and perception skills.

What You Will Do:

  • In this role, the incumbent will deliver internal and external customer value through continuous improvement in the following areas
  • Product Development and Formulation of oilfield chemical-related products
  • Product Performance Screening; evaluation and development of new products and techniques
  • Product Applications and Management
  • Technical Sales Support
  • Practical laboratory work and reporting
  • Field and/or Offshore service
  • Provide continuous improvements to internal and external customers through laboratory and field technical problem solving, troubleshooting and product application/development support.
  • The jobholder is required to work closely with ChampionX Technical staff based in Houston and the frontline sales force to assess and solve customer problems. Where necessary, the jobholder will design, supervise, and carry out laboratory and/or fieldwork and provide customers with a quality technical response. The response may include the completion of field evaluations of the recommended products.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of ChampionX’s product range to assist in the development of ChampionX product management, including marketing
  • Design and supervise performance tests to ensure that ChampionX continues to offer the best technical.
  • Ensure that all existing test and laboratory equipment is properly used and maintained.
  • Present all reports professionally and be competent with the computer and software systems available.
  • Take a professional approach to self-development. Source an appropriate training course.
  • Be responsible for conforming to the test procedures and maintaining the necessary paperwork/procedures for ISO compliance.
  • Assist in the review of the quality system and supervise/edit the equipment and lab procedures.
  • Implement and follow Company safety policy (Goal Zero) and procedures, in particular COSSH and risk assessments

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc Hons, MSc and/or PhD in Chemistry or a related subject and experience in multiple facets of the oilfield chemical-related product range
  • Previous experience working with oilfield chemical-related projects.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory and managing research projects
  • Good computer skills, must have experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, DOE optional
  • Good oral and written communication skills, speak and write English

Physical Demands:

  • A mixture of office-based and standard laboratory-based work
  • Field work/visits may be required
  • Ability to travel overseas on occasion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in H2S Scavenger chemistries/application
  • Synthesis knowledge in Polymers
  • Knowledge in Paraffin, Scale, Asphaltene or Gas Hydrates related projects would be of benefit
