Qualifications

Job description

Here is an exciting opportunity to join the preceptorship programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. We offer an opportunity to consolidate your skills as a midwife within the maternity unit rotating through several hospital wards.

Preceptorship Programme

Our preceptorship programme has achieved the Capital Midwife quality mark and includes a comprehensive package alongside mandatory training: simulation skills, IV cannulation, suturing, bereavement, screening study days with orientation and supernumerary in each new area.

Rotation and Training
  • Hospital Birth Centre (Obstetric Labour Ward)
  • Postnatal Ward
  • Antenatal Ward
  • Additional rotational areas as identified during the preceptorship year
Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring high quality evidence‑based midwifery assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for women and babies from admission through to discharge.
  • Advocate for women within the area, ensuring a woman‑centred approach to the delivery of care and meeting standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
  • Perform midwifery procedures and treatments, including suturing and cannulation, and maintain the highest possible standards.
  • Work alongside the multidisciplinary team, liaising with doctors, nurses and senior midwives to support and develop competencies.
  • Document all entries accurately and legibly, maintaining information systems.
  • Assist with orientation programmes and support junior staff and students.

Application Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an assessment centre, where you will be required to pass the practical element before progressing to interview on the same day. The interview is scheduled for 19th January 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be notified of progress.
