Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to join our friendly surgery. You will be responsible for assisting medical personnel in the care of our practice patients, including treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.

Experience working in primary care is preferred.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver a wide range of nursing treatments and health screenings, working both independently and alongside our GPs.
  • Offer health advice, support patients with minor ailments, and make referrals when needed.
  • Collect, prepare, and despatch specimens (bloods, swabs, smears, etc.) following training and agreed protocols.
  • Carry out investigatory procedures and maintain the highest standards of infection control and clinical safety.
  • Help organise and coordinate nursing services, supporting and guiding other nursing staff.
  • Work closely with the Practice Manager to maintain clinical equipment and manage stock.
  • Participate fully in practice meetings, contributing to the development of protocols, strategy, and high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure accurate, timely clinical documentation on our digital systems.
  • Complete all required documentation for patient registration and care.
  • Assist with collecting data for reports, audits, and service planning.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant clinical environment.
  • Oversee PPE, sharps safety, specimen handling, decontamination processes, spill management, and waste disposal.
  • Monitor practice facilities, identify risks, and elevate issues promptly.
  • Participate in regular infection-control and health‑and‑safety training.
  • Safeguard all patient and practice information at all times, adhering strictly to confidentiality and data‑protection policies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • Engage in ongoing learning, maintain professional competency, and participate in annual performance reviews.
  • Support and mentor colleagues undertaking similar clinical work.

Person Specification

Qualified Registered Nurse with NMC registration.

GP Surgery experience.

Chronic Disease Management (Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Hypertension, CVD, Stroke/TIA).

Cytology.

Immunisations (incl. Children, Flu, Shingles, Travel).

Blood Pressure.
