Because what we do matters to us as valued professionals and to the millions of people and institutions who rely on us to help them build more secure and prosperous futures.

THE ROLE

Using strong investment and operational knowledge the Portfolio Specialist team provides 24‑hour coverage to the investment teams and performs a specialized set of duties related to the portfolio management and order entry process. Based on instruction from the portfolio management team the Portfolio Specialist Lead Specialist will create and prepare equity orders for the Trading department. Using discretion and judgment to assess portfolio complexities, workload and order volumes, the specialist prioritizes and adjusts workflow according to market deadlines and competing demands from the investment and trading teams. The Portfolio Specialist – Lead Specialist works closely with operations, equity and fixed‑income trading, and portfolio management to monitor significant upcoming cash flows and account transitions and assists in the implementation of any instruction provided by the investment teams.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Use MFS Proprietary Global Modeling tool to create cash‑management equity program order baskets that facilitate raising or spending cash, bringing portfolios in‑line with a model fund or loading a quantitative solutions transaction model based on specific instructions from the Portfolio Manager. The baskets are prepared and independently checked for quality control before handing off to trading for execution.
  • Actively support the equity investment team by creating or modifying orders in the trading systems and ensuring accuracy prior to execution by the Trading Department.
  • Work closely with the Global Client Administration and Investment Risk Monitoring team and portfolio management to resolve portfolio investment‑guideline client restrictions or other compliance‑related matters. Keep the Portfolio Manager aware of any and all compliance issues affecting their original order instructions, make adjustments per the manager’s instruction, and shepherd the order to the trading blotter for execution.
  • Monitor email communication between the investment, trading and portfolio‑specialist teams to ensure all manager order instructions are acknowledged, understood and prioritized for timely and accurate completion. Act as liaison between investment teams and operations for swift resolution of any order‑entry, modification or transition issues.
  • Conditional to non‑US market coverage, use DTCC CTM to confirm all daily trading activity, including cash (equity and fixed income) and derivative securities. Responsible for all trade‑date matching duties on the day trades are executed to ensure Straight‑Through Processing.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and related investment and trading operations experience.
  • Proven expertise in equity, fixed‑income and derivative security types.
  • Experience with MFS proprietary trading systems desired.
  • Proven ability to perform job responsibilities independently and effectively in a demanding environment. Attention to detail and accuracy required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have flexibility around work schedule.
