Job Overview

Porters are required to work Saturday and Sunday shifts supporting the Porter Services Department at Liverpool University Hospitals (Royal Liverpool Site). The role requires an experienced, capable individual with high standards of communication, a positive work attitude, a smart appearance and polite manner, and excellent customer service skills.

Key responsibilities include supporting service improvements and encouraging high productivity, maintaining confidentiality and discretion, prioritising workload and multi‑tasking, and delivering a customer‑focused Porter service.

Main Duties of the Job

Part‑time, 15 hours per week on Saturday and Sunday.

The Porter plays an instrumental role in the smooth running of the hospital: moving patients, delivering patient meals, and managing the safe movement of medical equipment. Porters must work quickly and calmly in emergencies, exhibit strong interpersonal skills, listen and empathise, remain patient and tolerant, maintain physical fitness, and follow instructions within tight time constraints.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • Transport patients to wards and departments, including emergency bed and stretcher patients.
  • Take specimens to laboratories.
  • Collect clinical waste from wards and departments.
  • Deliver meal trolleys to and from wards.
  • Deliver equipment to wards and departments.
  • Attend fire response at the request of line manager.
  • Deliver drugs from wards and departments, including controlled drugs.
  • Post‑room duties.
  • Any other designated duties as required by Porter Services management.
Person Specification – Knowledge

An understanding of SOPs and policies relating to the area.

Qualifications
  • NVQ2 or equivalent.
Skills
  • Good written and verbal skills.
