Job description

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission‑critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting‑edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good. Working closely with the Head of Discipline of Hydrogeology, you will manage the delivery of water‑resource and low‑flow studies aligned to our clients' WINEP commitments and play a key part in our UK Water Catchment Management & Maritime capability team. In this role you will be involved in the technical delivery of a wide scope of geological and hydro‑geological projects and provide functional expertise to water‑resource management and environmental impact assessments. You will also provide specialist hydrogeological support in the review of datasets, identification of groundwater‑surface water interaction, formulation of conceptual site models, design and implementation of groundwater monitoring schemes, groundwater model interrogation, signal‑test design and analysis, and assessment of the impact of abstraction and options for meeting WINEP objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Work with and lead a collaborative, industry‑leading multidisciplinary team, e.g. hydrologists, hydro‑morphologists, aquatic ecologists, environmental economists, etc.
  • Oversee, review and sign off complex pieces of work, ensuring all solutions are in line with project requirements.
  • Lead and actively contribute to technical excellence development, maintaining subject‑matter expert status by keeping up to date with the latest industry and technical innovation.
  • Continuously engage with a wider network to complement technical excellence, alongside supporting and mentoring colleagues.
  • Develop and deliver technical solutions that both meet and exceed current and future industry requirements.
  • Act as Project Verifier on local / regional and national projects.
  • Oversee the submission of complex technical papers to clients.
Qualifications
  • Industry‑recognised expertise within Hydrogeology, with a focus on water resources and low‑flow studies aligned to water utility companies' obligations under WINEP.
  • Extensive experience at producing a wide range of deliverables within the broader Hydrogeology discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience relating to water resources and low‑flow studies aligned to WINEP.
  • A sound knowledge of groundwater site characterisation, groundwater‑surface water interaction, generation of conceptual site models, and quantitative groundwater and abstraction impact assessments.
  • Comfortable using, supervising, and interrogating numerical modelling (such as MODFLOW, FEFLOW and/or other similar software).
  • A good honours degree in earth sciences, or equivalent.
  • A master's degree or doctorate in hydrogeology, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Chartership with the Geological Society London (or similar).
