Job description

As a Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure and developer platforms that enable the delivery of high-quality gambling entertainment software. This role combines DevOps, infrastructure, and software engineering skills. We seek T‑shaped engineers – professionals with deep expertise in infrastructure or software engineering, complemented by broad knowledge of platform technologies, automation, security, and reliability. You will work within cross‑functional teams to deliver secure, performant platform solutions, automate workflows, improve reliability, and enable seamless deployments across hybrid environments (public cloud, private cloud, and on‑premises), with a strong focus on automation and continuous improvement. This is a hybrid role that requires you to be in our Newcastle upon Tyne office two days a week. Please apply only if you’re comfortable with this arrangement.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the design, architecture, and implementation of platform engineering solutions that improve stability, scalability, performance, and security.
  • Build cloud‑agnostic platform solutions, following a write‑once, deploy‑anywhere approach.
  • Design and maintain automated systems across infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines, aligned with GitOps principles.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code and supporting platform services using high‑quality, well‑tested code.
  • Implement and support monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure platform reliability and observability.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to enable smooth application delivery and adoption of platform capabilities.
  • Support services post‑deployment, including troubleshooting and participation in an on‑call rotation when required.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation to support ongoing use, understanding, and maintenance of platform services.
  • Continuously look for ways to simplify how we work and improve our platform, tooling, and practices.
Senior Engineer Responsibilities
  • Play an active role in architectural decision‑making and propose alternative approaches where appropriate.
  • Share deep technical expertise across platform, DevOps, and operational practices.
  • Mentor and support others, acting as a role model within the team.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Identify risks early and communicate them clearly and professionally.
  • Champion improvements to both our technology stack and ways of working.
Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and platform engineering concepts.
  • Professional experience writing, testing, and maintaining high‑quality code in one or more programming languages (e.g., C#, Go, Python).
  • Experience designing and implementing backend services, APIs, and integration patterns (including RESTful APIs and microservices).
  • Good understanding of software design principles, testing practices (unit, integration, automation), and quality standards.
  • Experience building or contributing to CI/CD pipelines and automated developer workflows.
  • Familiarity with containerised application development and deployment.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage priorities, work across multiple initiatives, and deliver reliably.
  • A willingness to learn, adapt, and pick up new tools, technologies, and ways of working.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (e.g., Terraform).
  • Exposure to container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Helm) and broader platform tooling.
  • Understanding of observability practices and tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Knowledge of networking, security principles, and compliance considerations.
  • Experience with Linux‑based systems and scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python).
  • Awareness of cost optimisation, scaling strategies, and multi‑cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet).
What Matters Most
  • A software‑first mindset with an interest in platform engineering.
  • Curiosity and willingness to cross‑skill between software and infrastructure over time.
  • A pragmatic approach to solving problems through automation and simplification.
