The applicant should havecompleted post graduate clinical rotations and want to develop theirclinical skills further within the specialist area of Paediatrics. You willgain experience in specialist areas including acute respiratory, neurology,neurosurgery, neuromuscular, neonatology, oncology, orthopaedics,musculoskeletal, cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia, surgery andhepatology.

Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will work as part of the Childrens physiotherapy team providingclinical care and helping to develop the physiotherapy service across theChildrens Hospital. Children are managed on the wards, intensive care units,neonatal units, specialist clinics, in the out patient department and in thecommunity. They will also support the out of hours service.

Thepost holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team includingmedical staff, nursing staff, occupational therapists, speech therapists,play therapists, dieticians and psychologists. They will also be encouragedto liaise with other agencies that support children and their families.

Thechildrens physiotherapy team is a team of approximately 40 physiotherapistsand physiotherapy assistants who work across Leeds Childrens Hospital. Theyhave a wide scope of experience and enjoy developing and teaching new membersof the team

Job responsibilities

JOBPURPOSE

Toperform physiotherapy assessment of paediatric patients with diversepresentations, providing a diagnosis and to develop and deliver anindividualised treatment programme, seeking support from seniorphysiotherapists appropriately.

Toassess, diagnose, plan and deliver physiotherapy treatment programmes topatients with physical and psychological conditions in their care.

Tocarry and prioritise their own clinical caseload as an autonomouspractitioner.

Tobe responsible for their own continuing professional and personaldevelopment.

Tobe responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive physiotherapytreatment notes/records for each patient.

Thepost holder will rotate around the paediatric clinical areas.

Theywill be responsible for their own caseload within that specialty area.

Access to advice and support from a seniorphysiotherapist is available.

  • Ability to cope working in a stressful environment including the ability to impart information, on a daily basis regarding poor prognosis for rehabilitation.
  • Able to deal with emotional or aggressive patients and carers.
Qualifications

  • Health Professions Council Registration
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

  • Able to take direction and to learn from staff at all levels
  • Able to supervise other staff e.g. assistants
  • Moving and handling patients and equipment is a requirement of this post
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
