Main duties of the job

As a Phlebotomist at the Lambert Medical Centre,you will be responsible for providing a professional and efficient venepunctureservice to patients attending our practice. You will work as part of ourclinical team to ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care during bloodcollection procedures.

LambertMedical Centre is a well-established practice offering patient services fromits partnership owned premises in Thirsk town centre, a semi-rural market town.We offer services to those living in Thirsk and the surrounding villages. Wehave a stable patient list size of 8,600 and we dispense medication toapproximately 40% of our list. There is an excellent range of housing andschools nearby with many local activities and the Yorkshire Moors and Dales onour doorstep.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venepuncture and capillary blood sampling on patients of all ages in accordance with best practice guidelines
  • Prepare patients for blood collection procedures, explaining processes clearly and providing reassurance
  • Accurately label specimens and complete all necessary documentation and request forms
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and transportation of blood samples to laboratories
  • Maintain accurate patient records using the practice's clinical system
  • Adhere strictly to infection control and health and safety protocols
  • Maintain and monitor phlebotomy equipment and stock levels
  • Support other clinical staff with specimen collection as required
  • Participate in practice meetings and training sessions
  • Keep up to date with mandatory training (BLS, IPC)
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with GDPR and Caldicott principles

  • Previous experience working in general practice or primary care.
  • Knowledge of SystmOne clinical system or similar.
Knowledge and skills
  • Excellent venepuncture technique with high success rates.
  • Strong understanding of specimen handling and storage requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, particularly those who are anxious or needle-phobic.
  • Good IT skills and ability to use clinical computer systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
