Job description
Overview

Wellsbourne Healthcare is looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join their friendly and inclusive in-house pharmacy team. The successful applicant will join our Clinical Pharmacists, and Prescription Clerks in providing operational support to the multi-disciplinary clinical team by optimising the use of medication to promote the health, wellness and disease prevention of patients.

Responsibilities
  • To support the Practice Based Clinical Pharmacist to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes.
  • The role will also include training and development of practice based Pharmacy Administrators to support improved co-ordination and effective pharmacy administration within practice, especially with relation to repeat prescribing systems and processes.
  • To undertake medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols and to update patients medical records / prescribing accordingly.
  • To support the achievement of the practices prescribing Quality and Outcomes Framework targets.
  • Working with the Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Administrators to contribute to the review and development of repeat prescribing protocols and Standard Operating Procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of repeat prescribing systems.
  • To provide advice to GPs, staff and patients in changes to prescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • To build searches and participate in medication audits and prescribing safety projects.
  • To assist in the appropriate monitoring and management of prescribing budgets and to liaise with the medicines management team at Sussex ICB.
  • To assist PCN in their projects and audits and participate in PCN Pharmacy Team meetings.
  • To prepare evidence based resources and information to support the implementation of rational cost-effective prescribing.
  • To support the Practice Based Clinical Pharmacist to provide medication reviews, patient information leaflets, medicine awareness; and to undertake community visits as appropriate.
  • To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement.
  • To respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring to the appropriate Clinician in accordance with practice protocols.
  • To advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.
  • To assist in the submission of claims for personally administered drugs as required.
  • Be responsible for the organisation, planning and of own workload to meet set deadlines.
  • To take a proactive approach to training administration team members (new and current) and new members joining pharmacy team.
  • Responsibility for administration: Take messages, data entry, responding to requests, and maintaining tidiness and a positive patient-focused culture across the practice.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Evidence of CPD

Desirable

  • Medicines reconciliation Certificate or equivalent
Experience

  • Recent previous experience within comparable role in General Practice
  • Previous experience working within a patient facing role
  • Experience of prescribing/clinical systems such as SystmOne, EMIS Web
