A local council service is seeking 2 caring, friendly Personal Assistants to support a lady with a disability. You will help with daily living tasks, provide companionship, and help her maintain independence. A driving license is essential. This role offers a flexible working schedule of 23.5 hours per week.

Job description

2 caring, friendly and passionate Personal Assistants are required to support a lady with a disability with daily living tasks for 23.5 hours per week. Hours can be split between 15 and 8.5 hours per week. A driving licence is essential for this role. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended for this lady to maintain her independence.

Main Duties

Support with personal care, as required and to involve (but not exclusively) washing, showering and dressing.

Assist with applying cream to legs. Support with accessing toilet facilities.

Support with her nutritional needs.

Personal Assistant is to support with some incidental cleaning; this includes wiping down kitchen surfaces and washing dishes following the preparation of her meals, spills to the floor are to be wiped up to prevent slips and falls; and bedding is to be changed and laundered as and when required. Support with accessing community venues and supporting with trips out. Support with shopping.

Motivational Support.

Other Duties
  1. To provide cover when another personal assistant is absent. To carry out any other reasonable requests that my family or I may make from time to time.
  2. Providing for the personal care needs of the employer, such as washing and toileting.
  3. Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence.
  4. Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community.
  5. Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest.
  6. Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills.
  7. To provide companionship in the employer's home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction.
  8. Encouraging the employer to attend appointments.
  9. Ensuring the employer's safety at all times during your working hours.
  10. To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours.
  11. To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
  12. Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on 01267 228751.
  13. Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

  1. Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with employer.
  2. To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
  3. Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.

Working in employer's homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.

  9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
  10. You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to drive to place of work but be able to drive my mum her vehicle and be comfortable with use of electric wheelchair in and out of the car.
  11. Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.
