Job description
Overview

Personal Assistant/Support Worker

Kind, polite and well-mannered young man with autism and learning disabilities seeking an assistant to live life to the fullest. I enjoy going out with support, spending time with friends, browsing tool and paint catalogues, construction and DIY websites, YouTube construction videos. I like exercise using my exercise bike, Wondercore, and Joe Wicks videos. A typical day may include gym, swimming, visiting a museum or enjoying a walk around DIY stores like B&Q or trying something new. I have autism, learning disabilities and difficulty communicating. I cannot read or write or understand people’s emotions, cannot drive itself or take a bus, so I need someone to drive me and support me in the community always ensuring I’m safe.

Sometimes I get upset with loud noises, sharp noises, vehicle reversing beeps; I may need to be physically prevented from hurting myself or others, and need comfort and reassurance so I feel safe. I cannot be reasoned with afterwards, so try to explain after it happens will only upset me. I need support when out in community, helping read, prompting to drink, go to the toilet, and use ear defenders as soon as any noise starts.

I would love to work with someone kind, friendly, compassionate, patient and honest, also jokey, fun, understanding and supportive. I live in Biggar so it’s important you’re comfortable working in this area.
