Job description

Job summary

South Rural Primary Care Network (PCN) is seeking an experienced paramedic to join the team on a full-time basis, working 37.5 hours per week. The work schedule can be arranged over 4 or 5 days to accommodate the applicant. The role is based at the Holbrook and Shotley practice.

Candidates should have completed at least 2 years of consolidation as a newly qualified paramedic and have a minimum of 3 years' experience as a band 6 (or equivalent) paramedic.

As an autonomous, accountable paramedic working within the community, you will provide assessment, management, and treatment to patients. We welcome applications from experienced emergency care practitioners (ECP) or paramedics seeking a new challenge.

Main duties include:
  1. Assess, manage, treat, refer, and/or signpost patients attending the surgery with undifferentiated or undiagnosed minor illnesses or injuries.
  2. Use advanced clinical skills to educate service users, promoting self-care and informed decision-making.
  3. Manage and treat patients presenting with minor illnesses.
  4. Triages and treats patients, making referrals to other primary healthcare team members as needed.
  5. Advise patients on general health and minor ailments.
  6. Perform investigatory procedures as requested by patients or GPs.
  7. Communicate effectively within the team to ensure quality service delivery.
  8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date healthcare records.
  9. Participate in mentoring, supervision, and CPD activities.
  10. Contribute to team effectiveness and efficiency.
  11. If qualified as a prescriber, prescribe or issue medications following policies, guidelines, and pathways.

Our PCN serves 56,000 patients across rural Suffolk, including the practices at Bildeston Health Centre, Constable Country Medical Practice, Hadleigh Health Centre, The Holbrook and Shotley Surgery, and Needham Market Country Practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Registered paramedic with current HCPC registration and post-registration experience, preferably in primary care.
  • Completed ENP/ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness Level 6 course and is an AMLS/APLS provider.

Experience (Essential):

  • Ability to assess, plan, treat, and refer patients effectively.
  • Confidence in evaluating patient care.
  • Experience working with protocols and guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make and communicate decisions clearly.
  • Understanding of working within one's training parameters as per HCPC standards.
