Job description

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join a People & Culture team on a 12-month fixed term contract. Based in Northampton, this role is responsible for delivering a high-quality, accurate, and compliant payroll service across a multi-site organisation.

The Payroll Manager will lead the end-to-end payroll operation, including pensions and benefits administration, ensuring payroll is processed efficiently and in line with statutory requirements. This role plays a key part in supporting employees and stakeholders while driving continuous improvement across the payroll function.

Key responsibilities include:
  • End-to-end management of monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and statutory compliance
  • Processing all payroll changes across the employee lifecycle, including starters, leavers, and contractual amendments
  • Oversight of pensions and benefits administration, ensuring compliance with scheme and legislative requirements
  • Managing payroll reconciliations, reporting, audits, and year-end activities
  • Submitting accurate returns and payments to HMRC, pension providers, and other third parties
  • Acting as the main point of contact for payroll queries, providing clear and professional guidance
  • Supporting and coordinating payroll colleagues to ensure deadlines and standards are met
  • Driving continuous improvement across payroll processes and controls
  • Maintaining data integrity, confidentiality, and GDPR compliance
  • Working closely with HR and Finance to ensure accurate information flow and consistent service delivery
