Position Statement

Professionally and efficiently greets and registers patients at the time of service and/or by phone prior to visit. Collects co-payments/coinsurance. Ascertains needs of patients in the waiting area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Registers patients by updating and maintaining accurate demographic, billing, and required forms in the practice management and hospital management systems.
  • Provides necessary departmental forms to incoming patients and courteously assists patients with completion, i.e. Consent to Care, HIPAA, and Patient Bill of Rights information.
  • Collects payments for co-pays, past due balances, and calculates coinsurance if needed.
  • Posts payments as they are received and provides receipt for patients. Responsible for balancing cash bag and daily posting of receivables.
  • Verifies insurance online prior to appointments and at the time of visit using various systems.
  • Identifies patients and refers patients for financial counseling.
  • Ensures the waiting room is in order and the needs of patients are met.
  • Inquires with staff if patient has been waiting > 10 minutes and updates patient on wait times.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills paired with verbal written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively with all staff.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
  • Shows competency in computer skills.
  • Understands medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of health insurance carriers helpful.
  • One year of experience in a medical practice preferred.
