Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Patient Engagement Lead to join our Healthcare Team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A prison located in London. HMP Belmarsh is a maximum security male prison with a capacity for 910 males. This role ensures patients receive the best quality care and supports the team.

Hours

Monday - Friday, 0900 - 1700.

Salary

Full-time; annual salary up to £32,000 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.

Main duties
  • Improve and sustain patient engagement activities and satisfaction through effective service user engagement and peer‑led forums.
  • Plan and deliver projects/programmes aligned with patient needs and priorities, involving patients where possible.
  • Act as point of contact and respond to patient engagement enquiries from staff, external partners, and patients.
  • Oversee and manage the health champion peer support model, including delivery of Health Champion training across the region.
  • Ensure statutory and organisational requirements are met; conduct engagement activities frequently across all sites with timely evaluations and provide feedback to patients, staff, and partners.

Qualifications
  • English and Maths at GCSE level C/4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths (certificate evidence required).
  • IT competent (Microsoft Office programmes).
  • A commitment to further training/education and continuous professional development.
  • Peer representative experience in a criminal justice setting (health, housing, substance use).
  • Face‑to‑face engagement skills.
  • Group facilitation and note‑taking skills.
