We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and motivated individual to join our organisation to develop and support Healthy Relationships work with young people within Torbay.

This is a new role within the Safer Communities Team so will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to shape delivery and work directly with our partners and young people to improve the quality of life for our communities within Torbay.

About the role

Partnership working and stakeholder engagement is pivotal to this role, and you will be working closely with Education; and a variety of statutory and voluntary sector agencies – developing collaborative and collective commitment to work together and make change.

You will also engage with young people with the aim of reducing unsafe risky behaviours, with a particular focus on healthy and respectful relationships, and develop the existing school-based peer mentoring programme addressing the attitudes, beliefs and cultural norms that underpin serious violence including gender-based violence.

You will contribute to the delivery of other early intervention and prevention projects within the safer communities team.

You will also be involved in working with comms and engagement colleagues to help raise awareness of the work that is taking place and the collective commitment to healthy relationships.

Skills

Essential:

  • A high level of diplomacy required to deal with contentious issues, negotiating, finding solutions to community needs and allocating resources.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the partnership, elected Members, senior managers, third party service providers and a full range of individuals and groups.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills including the ability to present complex issues with clarity to meet the needs of the target audience.

As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Working in a multi‑agency organisation and understand the complexities of working with a wide range of commissioners and service providers.
  • Have knowledge of the principles of a trauma informed approach and how this is relevant to preventing crime and antisocial behaviour.
  • Understand multi‑agency partnerships and the legalities of information sharing.
Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Partnership working and working with a wide range of agencies, organisations, third sector groups, private etc. Experience of problem solving, being innovative and creative in terms of designing and implementing solutions.
  • Positive track record of motivating, persuading and influencing colleagues and other stakeholders.

This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

This position is for a fixed term of 18 months from the start date.
