Job description
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Reporting to the Partnership Accountant, and indirectly to the Financial Controller, the Partnership Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the calculation, processing, timely payment and accounting of all aspects (excluding tax) of Partners' remuneration and capital.

This is a great role for an individual who is looking to start a financial qualification, with day-to-day activities that will underpin studies whilst also developing key core finance and accounting transferrable skills (double entry, reconciliations, planning and forecasting, review and challenge of numbers etc). The role provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about a specialist but critical and high profile area of LLP accounting and process.

THE TEAM

The Group Finance team supports and drives the financial success of Addleshaw Goddard, striving to deliver a first-class service to all stakeholders. The Group Finance team comprises business professionals across a range of disciplines including Financial Control, Tax, Procurement, Business Partnering, Financial Planning and Analysis, Credit Control, Accounts Payable, Legal Billing and Legal Cashiering.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
Partner Payments and policy
  • Preparing calculation and payment files for monthly partner drawings.
  • Work alongside Treasury to ensure the payment of partner draws and distributions is on schedule.
  • Supporting with the calculation and arranging the placement of Partner's required capital, liaising with Partners and banks to ensure capital is placed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the firm's Partner Capital and control account reconciliations
  • Calculate capital loan interest, ensuring charges are applied to Partners' accounts per policy.
  • Communicate updates / changes to Partners and regular reporting to Partnership accountant, Financial Controller and Head of Finance.
Partner Accounting
  • Calculate monthly Equity Partner Charge and Fixed Share Partner notional charges and work with commercial finance teams to ensure charges are correct.
  • Support with maintaining the Partner accounts on Elite / 3E ensuring entries are complete, timely and accurate.
  • Work with HR to coordinate charges to partner accounts for compulsory and optional benefits.
  • Ensure all payments and charges are posted correctly to the p&l.
Other
  • Help the partnership team to support the HR team with all aspects of Partner's financial affairs (excluding tax), including ad hoc requests such as income letters and remuneration illustrations.
  • Support in the preparation of communications to partners.
  • Work across finance to support with queries, forecasting and planning of partner related items.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
To be successful in this role, you will :
  • Be a graduate or an individual looking to start studying for an accounting qualification (all qualifications considered) - experience within a finance function is desirable.
  • Have a keen attention to detail.
  • Be organised, self starting and comfortable managing day to day workloads.
  • Be discreet and treat information sensitively and confidentially.
  • Have great communication skills and understand the importance of building successful team and cross-functional relationships.
  • Take responsibility for all outputs.
  • Be comfortable working with individuals at all levels.
  • Have a strong working knowledge in IT systems, specifically across MS packages (Excel (essential), PowerPoint, Word, Outlook etc.)
