Overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join an experienced and welcoming team at a 24‑hour hospital, recently refurbished and situated just a short drive from the breathtaking Jurassic Coast. The hospital provides a modern and supportive environment to develop your ECC skills while embracing the lifestyle benefits Dorset has to offer.

Hospital and Facilities

As a multi‑disciplinary hospital with a strong regional presence, we deliver out‑of‑hours care for 13 other practices. You will work alongside a talented group of clinicians, including certificate holders in diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, dermatology and emergency and critical care. Several team members pursue further surgical and medical qualifications, creating a thriving atmosphere of collaboration, professional development and continuous learning.

To support high‑quality emergency and critical care we are exceptionally well equipped: a CT scanner, digital X‑ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, two sterile theatres, an in‑house laboratory, an on‑site hydrotherapy unit staffed twice weekly, and a peripatetic physiotherapist. We also provide isolation facilities and separate dog and cat wards and proudly hold ISFM Silver Cat Friendly status. The night service is supported by an ECC‑certified veterinary surgeon and a skilled nursing team, ensuring continuity of care around the clock.

Role and Responsibilities

This position involves sole charge throughout the night. The ability to manage all aspects of emergency and critical care cases with the support of an RVN is essential, and previous ECC experience will be highly advantageous.

Shift Pattern
  • Two night shifts – Monday and Tuesday – every three weeks
  • Hours: 18:45 to 09:00
  • Average of 9.5 working hours per week, providing a balance between clinical work and valuable downtime
Qualifications and Experience
  • Veterinary surgeon with at least four years of UK experience
  • Confidence working independently
  • Previous ECC experience is highly advantageous
