Job description

The post can be offered as either a 9-month full-time position (5 days per week) or a 12-month contract at 4 days per week.

This is a maternity leave cover for Surgery and Parenteral Nutrition. This full time role is based in the acute team at Homerton, where the surgical Dietitian works closely with the surgical team across general and bariatric surgery and also works closely with the wider MDT.

The post requires close liaison with the clinical lead for Nutrition in the weekly Nutrition Support Team meetings.

Key responsibilities
  • To lead on best practice in Parenteral nutrition and be lead for surgical wards for parenteral and enteral nutrition
  • Ensure adherence to national policies and NICE guidelines.
  • To support Nutrition Steering Committee and Trust wide patients safety on Parenteral nutrition
  • Work closely with Critical Care lead Dietitian to supervise and lead the junior team members
  • To provide advanced dietetic assessment on patients, including those with diverse presentations and highly complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme in line with the evidence based guidelines.
  • To be a lead for patients with complex nutrition needs in all areas of the Hospital including ITU, Medical & Surgical wards in the absence of other senior members of staff
  • To jointly lead on research, development, clinical policies and pathways in relevant areas
  • To jointly deputise for the Professional Lead for the Service as required
  • To provide clinical supervision and guidance for junior members of staff within the acute dietetic team
  • To jointly co-ordinate dietetic student training within the acute team liaising with the wider Homerton dietetic service and Higher Education Institutions (HEI)
