Job description

We are recruiting for a Band 6 paediatric nurse who has experience in the care of children with haematological conditions, including sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia, who have undergone Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). We have a busy and expanding portfolio of commercial clinical trials in these conditions, including the investigation of treatments involving novel gene therapies. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who would like to build clinical research experience into their nursing career.

The priority for this post holder will be to support the existing paediatric clinical research staff already working on these high intensity BMT and haematology studies. There will also be a requirement to support the other studies delivered on the Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) at St Mary's Hospital. Although the post is primarily based at St Mary's Hospital, there may be requirements to travel to other sites at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as part of West London Children's Healthcare (WLCH).

Previous experience in clinical research is not essential as the successful candidate will be trained by the existing clinical research team. They will be educated to obtain a working knowledge of, and compliance with, local, national and international research regulations. The successful applicant will also be supported by the Band 7 BMT Research coordinator and all senior research staff on the CCRF.

Main duties of the job

• To facilitate efficient, safe and participant focused research primarily within paediatric haematology and BMT but also any other studies that are on the CCRF portfolio.
• Have a good understanding of Paediatric Haematology and the Bone Marrow Transplant process.
• To contribute to the management of the local portfolio of clinical research studies.
• To demonstrate sound knowledge of the life cycle of a research project from inception to study close out and performing all clinical protocol related tasks independently.
• To autonomously work with the clinical team to identify and recruit patients suitable for entry into clinical trials having understanding of the clinical patient pathway.
• To ensure safe planning and care of patients according to the clinical trials protocol.
• To work in according to good clinical practice and research governance standards for clinical research studies.
• To recognise and act on concerns raised if research deviates from the study protocol or the study design conflicts with legal requirement.

Education

Experience
