Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Leicester is looking for a Paediatric Pre - Assessment Lead Nurse to deliver high-quality pre-operative assessment and care. You will act as a clinical expert, provide support to patients and families, and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will have a degree-level nursing qualification, 3 years of post-registration experience, and significant expertise in surgical nursing. Paediatric Pre - Assessment Lead Nurse

The closing date is 06 January 2026

Location - Cross site working may be required (Leicester RoyalInfirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital).

Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the patients and carers and multi-professional team.

Work alongside the multi-disciplinary team / Head of Nursing to ensure the development and delivery of a high-quality service.

Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the pre assessment service.

Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership within the team.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist nursing support to ensure elective patients being admitted to the Children's Hospital receive gold-standard pre-operative assessment and care.

To work with the MDT to provide patient focused care to ensure the patient and families admission into the Children's Hospital is planned appropriately and supported through their entire journey.

To work with the multi professional team to develop, promote and run the pre-assessment service.

To be responsible for nursing practice development and line-manage the pre-assessment team.

Job responsibilities

Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the pre-assessment service.

Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in the pre-assessment area, ensuring the delivery of appropriate evidence based care.

Support, assist and encourage the multi-disciplinary team in resolving complex patient problems, be innovative and creative to develop the service to work for all specialities.

Promote the philosophy of patient centred care to plan and support the patient and the family with their admission the Childrens Hospital.

Promote the philosophy of patient centred care and establish and maintain a supportive relationship with the patient and their family at all times.

Promote patient and public involvement and enhancing their experience by supporting and implementing new initiatives relating to patient centred care.

Raise the profile of patient and public involvement by embedding this within own sphere of practice.

Provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across the whole spectrum of the service.

Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in the specialist area, ensuring the delivery of appropriate evidence based care.
