Vacancy Information

Hourly rate of pay : £17.72 - £19.19

Days and Hours of Work : Monday - Friday, 08:30-16:30. Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible.

Please Note : The postholder needs to be flexible with times worked due to service demands. This will include school holidays, and may include evenings and weekends.

If so, we invite you to apply for the role of Outdoor Learning Technician — a vital position supporting the safe and effective delivery of Outdoor Learning programmes across the authority.

As our Outdoor Learning Technician, you’ll be the backbone of our adventurous learning service — ensuring technical compliance, managing specialist equipment, and supporting staff and students in their outdoor experiences. This role is pivotal during HSE Adventure Activities Licensing (AALA) inspections and demands a proactive, detail-oriented, and flexible individual.

Job Details

To provide administrative and logistical support to the Outdoor Learning Service. Issue/receive equipment and conduct safety checks on all equipment, conducting maintenance if required or decommissioning equipment where appropriate that do not meet H&S standards. When required assist instructors in delivering outdoor programmes.

Requirements

Relevant Qualifications

You must be educated to at least HNC / SVQ level 3 ideally in a Health & Safety related subject and / or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through Outdoor Learning Industry experience.

Driving Licence

As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.*

PVG Membership

This post is considered as a Regulated Role with vulnerable children and / or protected adults, as specified in the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
