Overview

Purpose of the Role

Our fleet of On Track Machines, situated in Western & Wales Region (Paddington to Penzance & all of Wales) work alongside our stakeholders to maintain the track for the safe running of passenger trains. As an On Track Machine driver / operator or operator / fitter you will be an integral part our team who provide the maintenance / on track renewal work to provide a safe operational railway.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attending all required training for the roles of Driver / Operator, or Operator / Fitter or combination of all to become a ‘multi skilled’ Driver / Operator / Fitter and continue to attend all training required throughout your employment.
  • Reporting, recording any real time issues including incidents, accidents and environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Communicating and escalating machine service faults & failures as necessary to our maintenance department including all issues affecting operational shift performance.
  • Ensuring all activities are undertaken in accordance with policies, procedures, and safety rules.
  • Maintaining personal route knowledge (Driver / Operator)
  • Achieving high standards through determination, commitment, and motivation.
  • Pre-employment medicals and DBS check will be required for all safety critical roles.
  • Psychometric pass required for Driver / Operator.
  • As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
Person Specification
  • Are dynamic, driven, determined and professional and can perform duties safely on their own, and as part of a team using processes and procedures and without direct supervision.
  • Have a positive, attitude and thrive in a busy and pressurised environment.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication and can clearly report and liaise with other areas of the business in both safety critical and non-critical situations.
  • Can analyse problems thoroughly and make good timely decisions.
  • Are motivated to learn and develop and maximise personal contribution to the business.
  • Flexible, Honest & Punctual – Able to work weekends and bank holidays as part of a 24 / 7 shift-based roster (Essential)
  • Confident Computer Skills; Microsoft Windows packages incl. Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Have a Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
  • Have transferable skills or a background in Transport or Mechanical Engineering with fault finding skills
