Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an ophthalmic technician to join our progressive ophthalmology team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London.

You will be based within the Ophthalmic Imaging Department, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team of consultant ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nursing and other support staff across multiple sites.

This interesting and challenging role involves performing diagnostic tests on patients presenting with a variety of eye conditions. A knowledge of eye anatomy and pathology, along with experience of specialist ophthalmic imaging equipment, is desirable. Please refer to job description for further information about the role.

We are looking for a reliable person who is able to pay close and accurate attention to detail. You must also demonstrate excellent communication skills, be caring, enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a large team dedicated to providing a high quality patient focused care.

Main duties of the job
  • Responsible for performing ophthalmic imaging tests and duties as requested by healthcare professionals to enable diagnosis, clinical assessment, records, teaching, publication, research and medico-legal purposes.
  • Have an understanding of the needs for universal precautions at all times and be aware of the infection control policy when equipment is used.
  • Have an understanding of any equipment used, safe storage, health and safety recommendations and report any breakages to the Ophthalmic Photography Team Lead.
  • Contribute towards the maintenance of a safe environment within the unit by ensuring cleanliness and tidiness of imaging areas.
