Job Summary

Operations Assistant (15–24 hours per week) – Firth Park Surgery is seeking a motivated and friendly Operations assistant to join our supportive GP Practice team. The role requires availability all day on Monday and Friday, with flexibility for additional hours. As a busy training practice caring for over 10,500 patients, you will be part of a well‑structured team that includes GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, ANPs and a dedicated administrative support team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answering telephone calls and assisting patient enquiries
  • Managing online total triage requests
  • Booking appointments and processing repeat prescriptions
  • Providing face‑to‑face support to patients
  • Processing prescriptions and coding electronic and paper documents
  • Registering new patients and accurately recording amendments to patient records
  • Completing administrative tasks, including monitoring and actioning surgery emails
  • Organising filing systems, auditing scanned documents, and retrieving paperwork
  • Maintaining and updating patient records and electronic data entry/data allocation
  • Giving test results out to patients as authorised by the doctor
  • Taking messages and passing on information via tasks, notifications or telephone
  • Scanning documents and electronic post into patient records
  • Arranging transport for patients where appropriate
  • Attending regular practice meetings, training and participating in all essential training
  • Providing clerical assistance such as word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning of hospital/medical letters
  • Dealing with confidential waste and clinical waste where appropriate
  • Keeping the reception area, notice‑boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
  • Dealing with Health Visitor requests
  • Chaperoning for clinical staff
  • Undertaking any other additional duties as requested by the Partners or the Practice Manager

Firth Park Surgery is an inner‑city practice serving the communities of the S4 & S5 areas. Our mission is to offer high‑quality, equitable, sustainable, community‑based healthcare. We care for around 10,500 patients with support from an interpreter team and bilingual staff.

Benefits
