Job description

Solar O&M Engineer (Commercial)

Location: Hybrid, with travel to solar sites across the UK

Hours: Mon–Thu 8am to 5pm, Fri 8am to 4pm

Department: Renewable Energy

We’re looking for a skilled Solar O&M Engineer to support the safe and efficient operation of commercial PV assets across the UK. This hybrid role combines site-based work on large rooftop and ground-mounted systems with office-based reporting and coordination. You’ll work closely with the O&M Manager to deliver high-quality maintenance, fault diagnosis, and performance monitoring.

What You’ll Be Doing
Planned and Reactive Maintenance
  • Carry out scheduled and reactive maintenance on commercial solar PV systems
  • Inspect modules, inverters, mounting systems, and electrical components
  • Complete AC / DC testing, thermography, and torque checks
  • Produce clear, structured Preventative Maintenance Reports
Fault Diagnosis and Repairs
  • Identify and resolve faults across AC / DC circuits, inverters, and optimisers
  • Implement corrective actions and record all work accurately
Performance Monitoring
  • Use platforms such as SolarEdge and Hark to monitor system performance
  • Analyse PR, yield, and availability to track asset health
Health, Safety and Compliance
  • Prepare site-specific risk assessments and RAMS
  • Ensure all work meets HSE regulations and industry standards
  • Promote a proactive safety culture
Technical Support and Coordination
  • Support communication between clients, contractors, and suppliers
  • Maintain high-quality technical documentation for warranty and compliance
What You’ll Need Essential
  • Level 3 Electrical Installations qualification and 18th Edition
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection and Testing)
  • ECS Gold Card
  • SMSTS
  • Working at Height certification
  • IPAF / PASMA
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with commercial or ground-mounted solar PV
  • Strong understanding of AC / DC systems, inverters, and electrical safety
  • Confident using testing equipment, monitoring platforms, and reporting tools
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel with overnight stays
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable
  • High Voltage experience or HV AP status
  • Experience with diagnostic tools, CCTV / network communication, and wider monitoring platforms
  • Thermographic survey certification
  • Battery storage experience
