Role Description

Role Description :

Working in support of the Landfall Department’s World-wide activities, the Operations Advisor and Safety Officer has responsibility to drive operational efficiency and on-site safety of the Freighters and Depots, Land Route, Civil Works, and Shore End activities.

Reporting to : Head of Landfall Operations, Marine Directorate, with a dotted reporting line to the Head of HSE Projects & Operations, HSSE Directorate

Office base : Greenwich, London, a hybrid role with international travel

Responsibilities
  • Assisting to ensure our in-house and installation subcontractor’s activities are planned and performed efficiently, effectively, and timely in compliance with agreed schedule, procedures, and guidance.
  • Enforcing safety regulations and ensuring compliance with an emphasis on personnel safety.
  • Providing an oversight of on-site activities, supporting the On-site Representatives in identifying and troubleshooting operational issues to minimise downtime, and to maximise safe progress.
  • Oversight also of the maintenance of process, tools and equipment used for in-house on-site activities, at the Marine Cable Depot, Landfall Stores and Workshops in Calais, Malta, Greenwich, and Denmark.
  • Assisting our subcontractors with Management of Change process, associated Risk Assessment review as necessary and follow-up for final approval.
  • Ensuring subcontractors report satisfactorily the daily progress of activities and follow the agreed output format.
  • Supporting activities to ensure reliability and efficiency of process, whilst balancing reasonable cost constraints. Providing operational and safety critical support and guidance. Relaying key HSE messages and participating in HSE initiatives developed by the central HSSE team.
  • Liaising with our Supply Chain and Logistics teams on the shipment and return of tools and equipment, to ensure the right equipment is available, where, and when needed.
  • Oversight of marine risk assessments, ensuring a site / scope specific assessment is performed for ever mission. Promoting regular inspections to identify and assess hazardous or unsafe situations, to help strengthen the risk assessment culture, as a real tool to improve the safety and efficiency of our missions.
  • Developing, documenting, and implementing processes, and practices to help create a culture of continual improvement and safety consideration. Supporting the maintenance of documentation as per documentation management procedure.
  • Supporting the provision of training and ensuring competencies consistent with training needs analysis.
  • Sharing HSE bulletins to internal and external resources, to help all to flag and mitigate potential hazards with the view to prevent accidents, near misses and unsafe acts / conditions.
  • Supporting investigation into incidents to help determine the root cause and prevent future occurrences, timely follow-up also on actions from incidents, inspections, audits, drills, and site visits.
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Engineers, Project HSE Managers, and On-site Representatives to address operational efficiency and safety concerns, and to help further promote the recognition and encouragement of best practice.
  • Providing inputs to, capture and follow-up on lessons learnt and experience gained, including identification of non-conformances, process improvement opportunities, and capital expenditure plans.
  • Keeping up to date with regulations and industry guidelines; seeking and promoting the identification of potential synergies across activities.
  • Providing Marine related HSE support to the HSE Projects & Operations team where required; and reporting to the Central HSSE team, who have overall accountability for ASN Health, Security, Safety and Environment.

Qualifications

The applicant should have the following qualification and experience, or equivalent :

  • Relevant recognised professional engineering qualifications / training, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • years’ experience, ideally on dynamic marine or terrestrial installation / construction projects
  • A good understanding of operational best practice, process control, and safety requirements
  • A systematic and hands-on approach to problem solving. Innovative, creative, and proactive
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, flexible with regards to regular travel, and able to work independently.
