Job description

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Technician to join the Long-Term Neurological Conditions Team, supporting people in managing their long-term e.g. MND, MS, Parkinson's, in the community, within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.

Experience of working with people with a neurological condition is essential as is the ability to work flexibly and proactively to deliver a prompt and clinically effective service. The post holder will hold their own community caseload and support the occupational therapists to deliver a service across Gwent. Thisis a community post and the post holder needs to be mobile around large geographical areas.

Main duties of the job

The post offers opportunity to deliver a variety of assessments and interventions with clients in their own homes as well as in clinic settings. The post offers opportunities to manage a caseload, develop knowledge, skills and experience in condition management, as well as gaining some more specialist knowledge in posture and seating.

We need an effective communicator who can work flexibly and proactively to deliver a prompt and clinically effective service. You should be a creative problem solver, and demonstrate a willingness to develop and pilot new ideas. You will possess excellent organisational skills related to yourself and supporting the workload management of the team.

We provide all of our staff with the opportunity to work in an occupational therapy service that is developing to meet the needs of the people that we serve and provide innovative and effective ways of delivering occupational therapy intervention. We support all staff with professional supervision and regular development reviews.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will be expected to independently provide interventions, promoting independence; self-management; compensatory strategies, including functional assessment and education. In addition, they will need to undertake specific technical and administrative tasks as delegated by the lead or supervising occupational therapist.

The post holder will carry a delegated caseload of service users with less complex occupational therapy needs and will undertake assessments and reviews following screening by the occupational therapist. They are required to respond flexibly to changing needs within both the occupational therapy and neurology service.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Educated to GCSE level including Maths & English or equivalent
  • Evidence of a Level 3 qualification (relevant to OT) or equivalent accredited learning.
  • Communication skills in written and verbal format to level 3 standard
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft word and Outloo
  • Successful completion of the Diploma OT support
Experience
  • Experience of working as an OT support worker or a support worker role in another field associated with OT
  • Experience of working with people with a variety of support needs to include specific patient group to which this role relates
  • Experience of managing own time and prioritising activities.
  • Experience of self-development demonstrated by CPD portfolio
  • Experience of working in teams
