Job summary

About the roleTo provide a quality Occupational Therapy service to adults arising out of the Council's duties and powers under legislation and in accordance with divisional and area policy, procedures, guidelines and the professional practice standards for Occupational Therapists.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a quality Occupational Therapy service to adults arising out of the Councils duties and powers under legislation and in accordance with divisional and area policy, procedures, guidelines and the professional practice standards for Occupational Therapists.
  • To provide appropriate, professional occupational therapy functional assessments of older people, adults with physical and sensory needs or learning disability and carers with a focus on meeting the social care outcomes as articulated in the Department of Healths Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework.
  • To carry out urgent assessments, risk assessment and provide Occupational therapy interventions to mitigate urgent risk by providing simple and complex equipment such as moving and handling equipment
  • To recommend equipment and minor adaptions across the range-from simple equipment to complex specialist chairs and shower chairs.
  • To refer and recommend for major housing adaptations on the Disabled Facility Grant pathway or other pathways depending on the tenure of the property.
  • To safeguard adults and carers at risk of harm and promote Making Safeguarding Personal principles and their wellbeing.
  • To undertake review of the equipment, adaptions and interventions provided .
  • To ensure that the wellbeing principles are at the heart of assessment and care and support planning.

Minimum of 2 years of working in the UK experience as an Occupational Therapist- Experience of preparing clear and accurate correspondence, reports and other written documentation including risk assessments.- Sound, practical understanding of relevant legislation (such as the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Disabled Facility Grant, ), policies and processes necessary to deliver complex and multiple services to vulnerable adults.

  • Relevant experience of operating effectively in an Occupational Therapy Role.
  • Experience of undertaking moving and handling assessments and demonstrating the use of equipment including professional advice and

  • Experience of supervising and supporting staff.
