Main duties of the job

The role of a qualified practitioner involvescompleting holistic assessment of need, risk assessment & management,delivering evidence-based treatment & interventions, admission/discharge,coaching & supervising junior colleagues, attending and leading meetings(including MDT's, reviews, team meetings, etc.), maintaining the wardenvironments, supporting the friends/families of people using services, andcontributing to the safe and effective delivery of the service whilst ensuringthat the people who use our services are always involved and at the heart ofany decision-making. Through robust implementation of policy and compliancewith the appropriate legal frameworks, this role truly contributes theimproving the lives of the people accessing our services.

Job responsibilities

Providenursing care to patients, having knowledge of national and local policies andprocedures, in order to maintain high standards of care.

Directly support staffas appropriate in the provision of care for the service user providing supervision and support as necessary.

Assist in thesupervision and assessment of junior staff.

Provide and receivecomplex, sensitive, and at times, contentious, information around serviceusers mental health needs and requirements.

Communicate with serviceusers, their family, and carers, around needs and care programmes, whilstovercoming their possible barriers to understand by using persuasive andnegotiating skills.

Demonstrate proceduresto qualified and unqualified staff by means of instructions and supervision.

Participate in the fullrange of administrative responsibilities.

Plan andorganise workloads for staff within the area to include allocation of staff,planning patient care and groups etc.

Maintain patientsrecord accurately and promptly and be able to give and receive nursing carereports, including knowledge of, and the ability to use, our computer database system(SystmOne).

Assist in maintaining thesafe custody of drugs in accordance with our policies and procedures.

Handle cash andvaluables belonging to the service user within policy and guidance.

Assist in providing asafe environment for the safety and welfare of service users and staff by beingaware of the following: (1) Health and Safety at Work Act (2) Fire Preventionand Management (3) Infection Control Policy (4) COSHH.

Report all accidentsand complaints and also all faulty equipment in line with Navigos policies andguidelines and provide written reports when appropriate.

Be aware ofdevelopments in nursing by attending continuing education courses and studydays and be self-motivated with regards to personal development.

Assist as appropriatein the support and counselling of service users and relatives.

Be involved withinclinical supervision sessions with peers and superiors.

Contribute to themaintenance of a good clinical climate for learners and assist in thein-service training for ward staff.

Keep up to date withcurrent research in nursing and when necessary participate in researchprojects.

Rotatebetween day and night duty, as the service need demands.

Carry out audits toimprove areas of work within the service (in-patient, home treatment etc).

At times, when service need demands, work in other areas of the service.

Providespecific training/mentorship to students.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience working with mental illness of a severe and enduring nature.
  • Knowledge of relapse prevention.
  • Evidenced knowledge of issues involved in the treatment of mental illness and relapse prevention.
  • Can evidence experience in audit and research.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the principles of nurse prescribing and the use of patient group directives/protocols.
  • Broad knowledge of risk assessments.
Qualifications
  • Current UK professional registration - please provide UK registration number.
  • Post qualification award in health/social care at degree or equivalent level.
  • 032/33 or ENB998 (equivalent).
  • Clinical Supervision Training.
  • Nurse prescribing.
  • AMHPs trained/willingness to undertake training.
  • IT or equivalent qualification to level 2
Additional Requirements
  • Evidence of ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Examples of positive attitude and person-centred, trauma-informed care.
  • Able to work shifts, covering days and some nights, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Evidence of a commitment to user/carer involvement.
  • Access to own transport.
