Job summary

A leading reproductive health charity in Reading is looking for a Nurse / Midwife Practitioner to provide high-quality care in reproductive health services. The candidate should be a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife with a passion for sexual health. This is a part-time position with 30 hours per week across four days. Nurse / Midwife Practitioner - 30 hours

Are you a Registered Adult Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about reproductive healthcare?

We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team within our Reading Unit. You will work part-time, 30 hours per week over Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. More details can be found in the further information section below.

About the role

As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy. You'll be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment & will work in all areas of the unit including theatre & recovery. This role will involve providing treatment & clinical information to clients both in person & over the phone.

About You

You will be a Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Midwife (practising) with active NMC registration and PIN. You'll have clinical practice experience of at least 12 months & have a keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare. Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies are essential for this role.

You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and you will be adept at caring for clients in a compassionate & empathetic way.

Main duties of the job
  • You will work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice & the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act as well as BPAS clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the clientunderstands her options in relation to the pregnancy &, if choosingtermination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act.
  • Provide informationon STI Testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, informand confirm the clients future choice of contraception.
  • Carefully check forand implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, includingadministering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervicalpreparation.
  • Carry out posttreatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client anddiscussing any concerns
  • Complete relevantpaperwork and in the event of post treatment problems, make arrangements withthe clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary.
  • To care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments. Thiscould include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.

We are also looking for:

  • Sound & accurateadministrative competence with attention to detail
  • Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty i.e., sexualhealth, contraception
  • Venepuncture / cannulationskills
  • Comfortable using IT and Microsoft Packages including Outlook, Word and Microsoft Teams.

Salary: £38,984 - £45,518 per annum - depending on skills and experience (Pro rata for part time hours)

  • Thursday 08:00 to 16:00
  • Friday 08:30 to 16:30

Experience
