A leading mental health service provider is seeking a Non-Executive Director (Clinical) to join their Board. This role involves shaping strategic direction and supporting governance to ensure quality and patient safety at the heart of their operations. Ideal candidates will be senior clinical leaders with proven experience in clinical quality and patient safety. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative mental healthcare delivery. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact for further discussion.
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is an internationally respected provider of mental health services to around 1.3 million people across Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, as well as a number of national and specialist services. They employ more than 6,000 staff and have an annual turnover of around £600m. Their close academic partnership with King’s College London and membership of King’s Health Partners mean they combine care, research and education to improve outcomes for patients and families.
They are proud of their contribution to the communities they serve, but they also recognise the scale of the challenges they face. Demand for mental health care continues to rise, and they are responding through service improvement, modernisation and innovation. SLaM are investing in major infrastructure developments, advancing their digital capabilities, and strengthening their governance arrangements. They have recently completed a CQC Well-led inspection and mapping areas where they are making progress and where they must go further.
SLaM are now seeking an outstanding Non-Executive Director (Clinical) to join their Board at an important point in their journey as they continue to strengthen quality, safety and user experience.
As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a central role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation and supporting strong, transparent and accountable governance. You will work closely with fellow Board members and the Council of Governors, providing constructive challenge and support to the Executive Directors and ensuring that patient safety, quality and the voice of their service users remain at the heart of everything they do.
SLaM are specifically seeking senior clinical leaders who bring both professional credibility and substantial leadership experience. Candidates will be clinicians who have held senior or executive-level roles and who have a strong track record in clinical quality, patient safety, improvement and service delivery. They welcome applications from medical, nursing and allied health backgrounds, and they would particularly value experience gained in mental health or in large, complex care settings.
This is an exciting and rewarding time to join SLaM. The Board and Executive leadership team are evolving to reflect their shared ambition to strengthen the Trust and address longstanding challenges. They have recently completed their CQC Well-Led inspection, and they are investing in new facilities, expanding their digital capability and working more closely with partners across health and care to support more integrated and preventative approaches. In this context, your insight, independence and leadership will play an important role in helping SLaM deliver high-quality, compassionate and equitable care.
If you are a senior clinical leader who shares their ambition for outstanding mental healthcare and who can make a strong contribution to the future of SLaM, we would be delighted to hear from you.
