Job summary

A leading manufacturing company is looking for a Night Multi Skilled Shift Engineer to optimize production asset availability and lead maintenance efforts. You will be instrumental in ensuring operational efficiency by responding to breakdowns, performing scheduled maintenance, and training team members. Ideal candidates will have Level 3 Engineering qualifications, experience in mechanical and electrical systems, and strong analytical and communication skills. The role is full-time, night shifts, based in Kent, with a salary around £44,800.

Night Multi Skilled Shift Engineer

The company is a well-established leader in producing premium products, including fresh and innovative offerings. Over the past decade, it has experienced significant growth, supplying key customers in the UK food retail, wholesale, and foodservice sectors.

About the Multi Skilled Shift Engineer job

The purpose of your role will be to play a central role in maximising production asset availability by identifying root causes of failures, delivering rapid responses to breakdowns, completing planned maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You provide training where needed, maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety, and promote teamwork across production, technical, and development functions to ensure safe, efficient, and hygienic manufacturing.

Key tasks
  • Ensure plant performance meets agreed targets, ideally reaching 100%, by planning and completing tasks on ongoing task schedules. Optimise line efficiency, encourage strong communication between departments, act as a role model for operational standards, carry out daily checks, complete required documentation, and ensure work orders are prioritised, executed, and communicated effectively.
  • Support machine operation training, complete maintenance projects and modifications, and contribute to continuous improvement across engineering and site services.
  • Liaise with other departments to resolve issues, share requirements, and maintain efficient workflows, as well as continually promoting open communication, uphold high operational standards, and help drive improvements through team-based initiatives and cross‑functional cooperation.
  • Always follow the company’s Code of Business Conduct, maintain professional interactions with internal and external customers, adhere to all hygiene and safety procedures, ensure accountability for best practices and skills development, and undertake any additional duties requested by engineering leads or site management.
About You
  • The successful candidate ideally shall have relevant Level 3 Engineering qualifications (Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, health & safety, etc.).
  • Experience of both mechanical and electrical experience with knowledge of PLC fault finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, coordination, and communication skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and effective at building workplace relationships.
  • Results‑driven with experience in FMCG operations, resilient and flexible, able to work rotating shifts, and fully aware of customer expectations and quality standards.

The Multi Skilled Shift Engineer job (ref:8983) is paying c. £44,800 according to your experience.

This is a night shift role, and the working hours are Sunday to Thursday 10:30pm to 07:30am.

The site is based in Kent and is commutable from Ashford, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Canterbury and surrounding areas.
