Job description
Overview

The post is available for clinicians with a background in Surgical Ophthalmology, Medical Ophthalmology, or Neurology. It offers advanced sub‑specialty training in Neuro‑ophthalmology in a 12‑month, fixed‑term Clinical Fellow role at the Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH), part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust (UHBW). The programme is designed to provide both clinical and research exposure, with the opportunity for a surgically trained ophthalmologist to maintain cataract surgery skills or further specialise in strabismus surgery, should this fit the interests of the post‑holder.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care and specialist management of neuro‑ophthalmology patients at BEH.
  • Take part in supporting surgical lists for cataract and strabismus, maintaining operative skills where appropriate.
  • Engage in one or two selected research projects during the appointment.
  • Contribute to teaching and training within the department, supporting the broader neuro‑ophthalmology service.
Qualifications & Eligibility
  • Background in Surgical Ophthalmology, Medical Ophthalmology or Neurology.
  • Already hold final Common Clinical Training Scheme (CCST) status or be entering the 5th year of the scheme.
  • Overseas applicants should be at the end of their local training programme and meet the equivalent UK training requirements.
  • Referees must cover the last three years of your career.
