Department: Finishing Team

Reports To: National Operations Manager

Location: National with regular travel

Direct Reports: 1 Sales Team leader, 6 Business Development Managers (BDMs) and 2 Technicians

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Purpose

The National Sales Manager (NSM) will lead and develop a high performing sales team to achieve significant growth across the country. This role is responsible for driving the national sales strategy, identifying new opportunities, developing customer relationships, and leading a team of Business Development Managers.

Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 6 Business Development Managers across the country.
  • Set clear sales objectives, KPIs, and activity standards aligned with company goals.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, one-on-one reviews, and performance evaluations twice a year.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth with great service.
2. Sales Strategy & Execution
  • Develop and execute the national sales plan in line with company objectives.
  • Identify new business opportunities and support regional growth with BDM`s.
  • Oversee the full sales cycle through the team, ensuring timely follow up and conversion.
  • Oversee major client relationships and support BDMs in high‑value accounts.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regional performance to feedback to the National Operations Manager.
  • Provide feedback on marketing and areas of improvement for marketing to drive growth in the area.
3. Financial & Performance Management
  • Exceed regional national sales targets.
  • Forecast sales growth and opportunities by product type.
  • Report regularly to the National Sales Manager on pipeline, performance, and key business insights.
  • Analyse sales data to identify improvement areas and growth opportunities.
  • Management of customers debtor balances across the country through the BDM`s.
  • Regularly review Oxbury accounts with team members and manage credit limits.
4. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers and strategic partners.
  • Work with rearing, procurement and finance to ensure customer satisfaction and delivery of excellent service and support to customers.
  • Represent the company at regional industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Achievement of sales targets and growth of TB infrastructure.
  • Growth in existing accounts and retention of key accounts.
  • Performance and engagement of the BDM team including CRM usage, and debt management.
  • Reduce wastage of animals out of the programme to 1% or lower.
  • Attendance of events and shows to promote the business.
  • Less than 5% of customers with debt over 90 days.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
  • Proven track record of managing a field sales or business development sales team.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing national sales targets.
  • Understanding of UK Agriculture, and the beef industry.
  • Strong understanding sales processes, account management, and pipeline management.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical ability.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in CRM and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel nationally.
Desirable
  • Experience within a integrated supply chain.
  • Experience of Farm management software
  • Understanding of finance for farmers.
