  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress and engagement.
  • Enhance curriculum and keep course content current and aligned with industry standards.

What we’re looking for
  • Inspiring students to develop both technically and creatively.
  • Delivering high‑quality teaching in music performance with a focus on piano/keys, planning and assessing practical and theoretical music sessions, supporting students’ musical and professional development.
  • Contributing to ensemble direction and performance projects, teaching elements of music technology including DAW use and studio recording, supporting students with coursework, assessments and progression.
  • Participating in curriculum development and team meetings, maintaining awareness of current industry practices.
  • Holding a degree in Music or a related subject, or having equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrating strong performance ability on piano/keys (or another instrument).
  • Having experience teaching or training in music, ideally within further or higher education.
  • Possessing a working knowledge of DAWs such as Logic, Ableton or Pro Tools, with familiarity of other studio software.
Required qualifications
  • Relevant subject qualification (e.g. degree or equivalent).
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Level 2 English and Maths (e.g. GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent).
  • The ability to plan and deliver effective, inclusive teaching for diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of subject‑specific pedagogy and current teaching practices in further or higher education.
  • Clear communication and strong organisational skills.
  • Confidence using digital tools to support learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and ongoing professional development.
Role Description

The Performance Academy at Newcastle College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Music Lecturer to join our team on a 0.6 FTE basis. The successful candidate will primarily specialise in piano/keys, though applications from musicians with other instrumental specialisms will also be considered. You will be responsible for delivering engaging and industry‑relevant teaching to learners across a range of music performance and production courses, recording studio environments, and will demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills.

Experience teaching in further or higher education, knowledge of live sound and music production, experience working with diverse learner groups, and professional industry experience as a performing musician or producer would be advantageous.
