Job Description
As the Multi‑Skilled Engineer you will be tasked with the following:
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise downtime and extend asset life.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic automation faults.
- Carry out reactive maintenance swiftly to restore production with minimal disruption.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with site standards, safety regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and asset histories.
- Provide hands‑on engineering support to production teams during line start‑ups, changeovers, and shutdowns.
- Optimise machine settings and parameters to improve throughput, reduce waste, and maintain product quality.
- Monitor line performance data to identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Support root‑cause analysis (RCA) for recurring issues and drive permanent solutions.
- Lead or contribute to CI initiatives such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, or SMED.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance OEE.
- Participate in engineering projects, upgrades, and equipment installations.
- Recommend and implement modifications to improve safety, efficiency, or maintainability.
- Ensure engineering activities support product quality standards and GMP requirements.
- Collaborate with Quality teams to investigate and resolve quality‑related equipment issues.
- Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards in line with food standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site H&S policies.
- Conduct risk assessments, permit‑to‑work processes, and safe isolation procedures.
- Identify and escalate hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Support environmental sustainability initiatives through energy‑efficient engineering practices.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to operators to build capability and reduce engineering interventions.
- Communicate effectively during handovers, shift briefs, and incident reviews.
- Use CMMS systems to log work orders, track performance, and manage spare parts.
- Support audits (internal, customer, regulatory) by providing engineering documentation and evidence.
- Contribute to engineering KPIs such as OEE, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance compliance.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Multi‑Skilled Engineer should have:
- Hold a minimum of a Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience in a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
- Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards in an industrial environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced setting.
- Problem‑solving skills with a focus on improving operational efficiency.
