The Module Lead will play a key role: Liaising with other programme module leads to ensure accredited clinical placement programmes have the most up to date evidence-based learning objectives in line with the theoretical knowledge gained on the programme throughout the final year working closely with the senior teaching and learning administrator to assign clinical placements to students and maintain the clinical placement handbooks Being responsible for collaborating and contributing to the delivery of the annual clinical tutor day in conjunction with the other clinical placement lead and co-programme director. providing training in QA for external placement sites regarding competency framework. being the first point of contact for clinical placement tutors needing to liaise with UCL regarding a student on placement and offer pastoral support to students as required. Working collaboratively with the current clinical placement module lead for year 1 clinical placements to provide seamless transition for learners, Ensure the effective and efficient delivery, assessment, and on‑going development of the modules, in compliance with UCL procedures and regulations. Bring to the attention of the Programme co‑leads any concerns relating to the students' clinical work or general welfare. Be familiar with UCL and the Institute's guidelines, particularly those pertaining to staff and student welfare. Leadership Support and coordinate clinical placements and assessment to HCPC requirements. Lead curriculum module review and on‑going development. Work collaboratively with the MSc co‑Programme Director, Module Leads and Head of Orthoptics at MEH as clinical partner on behalf of the trust. Engage in appropriate scholarship in your discipline to support excellent research and evidence‑based teaching within the MSc (pre‑registration) programme. Education Curriculum (in consultation with Programme Leads): Coordinate and contribute to orthoptic‑led module teaching, and developing the module syllabus; ensuring the content aligns with the core curriculum and the Intended Learning Outcomes set out in the Curriculum Map and draw on a variety of teaching methods including small group teaching and tutorials. Ensure the development and provision of core course material for the module is up to date and contributing authors align to the curriculum map, including on‑line resources and e‑learning. Prepare high quality teaching materials for tutorials post clinical placement, communication with students to develop critical thinking and practical skills. Confidently and competently work across a range of teaching platforms including online, classroom and clinical spaces. Support the creation of the clinical placement and tutorial timetable in conjunction with the Programme Leads and Programme's dedicated Senior Teaching and Learning Administrator. Support clinical and academic supervision and tutoring on students on the programme, as directed by Programme Director. Provide pastoral support role for students, such as acting as personal tutor and clinical link tutor and UCL tripartite tutor duties. Promote the development of excellence in learning and teaching through personal scholarly activity. Support CPD and knowledge exchange activity. Assessment Have responsibility for the module assessment. Work with programme and module leads to determine the content of written, practical and clinical assessment aligned with the intended learning outcomes set out in the curriculum map. Participate in writing and reviewing assessment materials for formative and summative written, practical and clinical examinations and to ensure participation by module teachers. Participate in practical and clinical assessments and marking and to ensure participation by module leads and assist with marking for other modules. Co‑ordinate module assessments and course work. Provide constructive written and oral feedback on formative and summative assessment for learners Quality Assurance Actively engage in appropriate training and development to comply with mandatory requirements and sustain excellence in teaching activity. To respond to issues raised through UCL quality monitoring and assurance mechanisms to ensure appropriate follow up action. The MSc Orthoptics pre‑registration programme has been developed by University College London (UCL), Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in a joint education partnership. The post holder will hold an honorary contract with UCL IoO and be employed by Moorfields Orthoptic Service.
