Job summary

A facilities management company is seeking a Mobile Mechanical Engineer to work on the HMCTS contract based in Portsmouth. This role involves carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance, supervising subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering Services and a valid UK Driving Licence. Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a Facilities Management environment.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain BPSS and CTC clearance.

Job description

Equans is looking for a Mobile Mechanical Engineer to join our team on the HMCTS contract. You will be based out of Portsmouth Combined Court but look after various sites across the surrounding area. This is a full-time permanent role working an average of 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.

What will you deliver?
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on mechanical assets (e.g. HVAC, pumps, valves).
  • Conduct legionella control and monitoring activities.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out remedial works independently.
  • Maintain accurate records on CAFM systems (e.g. TotalMobile).
  • Supervise subcontractors and ensure safe systems of work, including use of Permits to Work.
  • Participate in emergency response and out-of-hours cover as part of a rota.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, including proper use of PPE and adherence to Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Maintain compliance with BS7671 standards for relevant works.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, contractors, and clients.

Who are we looking for?
Essential
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a Facilities Management environment.
  • NVQ Level 2 or higher in Mechanical Engineering Services (City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain BPSS and CTC clearance (required for specific sites).
  • Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with CAFM systems and maintenance documentation.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices.
Desirable (but not essential)
  • IPAF / PASMA certification.
  • Technical Appointments such as CP - Mechanical or Pressure Systems (CPMPS).
  • Experience working in secure or public sector environments.
