MIU Receptionist

Are you looking for a new challenge, working in a fast-paced environment? If so, this could be the role for you! Being responsible for providing an effective service for all visitors presenting in the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Princess of Wales Community Hospital. You will be the first point of contact for our patients. You will be responsible for providing a professional, efficient, and courteous reception service, both in person and over the phone, while always ensuring patient confidentiality.


The successful candidate must be flexible, forward thinking and proactive and require a commitment to ensure we provide a high-quality service to our patients. This is a challenging role which requires excellent communication and empathy skills.


To contribute to the delivery of a high quality MIU across the Trust and Community.


The position is a 16-hour post to cover evenings / weekends and occasional day time cover.


Please note the Trust is unable to provide sponsorship to work for this role, to apply you must have current right to work in the UK status.


Main duties of the job


  • To book as required, patients into the MIU and make other appointment/transport bookings. Respond to queries and requests for information as directed by office procedures, guidelines and protocols. Refer complex or unusual requests to the Team Administrator or a member of the clinical team.

  • To work together with other staff to promote a smooth and efficient workflow through the department in which he/she is based. Undertakes admin tasks that are assigned, including formatting letters, reports where necessary. Carries out photocopying/printing.

  • To be proactive and forward thinking. Regularly checks on the tidiness and cleanliness of the office environment and takes action to ensure any problems are resolved.

  • To participate in a range of shifts, to include evening and weekend shifts as required, in line with service requirements and demands.

  • To assist the MIU Manager in undertaking regular reviews of the office protocols and guidelines by providing advice on changes in working processes. Attend team meetings as required.

  • To undertake any other clerical duties that may be necessary for the speedy progression of both results and patients through the department to include administrative support as required.
