Job description
Overview

It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it’s what’s behind every job here. Our work keeps Scotland’s water flowing, from reservoir to tap – and from sewer to treatment plant. We’re looking for a Metering Technician to join our Customer Excellence and Resilience Team in Aberdeen.

In this role you’ll spend a fair amount of time working alone from site, so you’ll need to be self-motivated, but still eager to contribute to your team’s goals. You’ll be part of a team with experience, and together we run Proactive and Reactive Wholesale activities across Scotland. Our mission is to become a Great Wholesaler. You’ll be collaborating with the Wholesale Service Desk, Revenue & Wholesale teams, and our Alliance Partners, and when needed, you will work with other internal and external stakeholders.

What you’ll do
  • Your number one priority is resolving customer issues. You’ll take control of situations, investigate problems and provide solutions, keeping them up to date.
  • Survey water and wastewater systems, and install, maintain, and repair water meters across a range of residential and commercial properties.
  • Carry out routine repairs and maintenance on metering assets, prioritising health and safety, and conduct risk assessments and audits on Alliance Partners. Complete the DOMS Impact Assessment Form as part of your duties.
  • Conduct surveys to understand customer supply arrangements for water and wastewater, including complex sites and dye testing. Produce accurate field reports from visits to provide Information to License Providers. Meet targets for metering tasks.
What you’ll need
  • Customer service focus with plumbing knowledge; familiarity with the Sewerage Scotland Act, Water Scotland Act, and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Strong IT and communication skills; able to use digital equipment and apps, and to write clear, accurate reports.
  • Flexibility to work from various locations. Knowledge of DOMS policies and procedures, Hygiene Code of Practice, and Streetworks (NRSWA) is beneficial. A valid UK driver’s license is required.
  • Nice-to-haves: knowledge of Salesforce/Youreka, GIS/Geofield/Field Maps, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. We provide a good work-life balance, including 38 days of holiday per year (including public holidays) with the option to buy five more days. You may also take time off to volunteer in your community. The role includes some weekend working.

We offer family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave, and support flexible working. Benefits include a pension and life assurance, and an annual company bonus. Access to SW Splash provides rewards to save money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role is grade 5. Starting salary for new hires is £32,650, with performance-driven pay progression to a maximum of £38,610.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone who might be – we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Sunday 28th September 2025.

Please include with your application a covering letter explaining why you’re a good candidate for the role.
