Job description
Overview

The role involves supporting young people who have been admitted and engaging in treatment around managing their mental health and risk. The average length of stay is around 6-8 weeks, during which the young person and their family are offered treatment to support safe discharge back to the community. Young people admitted to the unit may engage in behaviours associated with mental distress such as self-harm, agitation, suicidal thoughts and intrusive thoughts. The team operates 24/7 with shifts including Earlies, Lates, Long days and nights. The focus is on risk assessment, management and treatment in a general adolescent hospital setting, interfacing with other agencies and contributing to the therapeutic timetable. This is a collaborative role within a hospital with staff across nurses, support staff, education, family therapists, music therapists, OTs, psychologists, psychotherapists, medics, social workers, admin and management.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct risk assessment and risk management for adolescents in a hospital setting.
  • Contribute to and deliver treatment plans to support safe discharge back to the community.
  • Engage with young people and families, and interface with other agencies as part of the therapeutic timetable.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Interest and/or experience in supporting young people with mental health needs.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in emotionally challenging situations; confident in making decisions in the best interests of children, young people and their families.
  • Willingness to work a 24/7 shift pattern (Earlies, Lates, Long days, Nights).
Probation and Induction

The post is subject to a probationary period. An induction will be provided, including mandatory training, systems training and equipment allocation. New starters join on the first Monday of each month for a comprehensive induction up to two weeks at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.
