A reputable educational institution in Weybridge is seeking a Medical and Learning Support Assistant (MLSA) to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child using a wheelchair. Job description

We are recruiting for a Medical and Learning Support Assistants (MLSA), to start as soon as possible, to support a happy engaged child who uses a wheelchair due to a spinal injury and needs constant 1:1 support. The role is initially offered on a fixed term contract to the end of the summer term.

The MLSA is required for 25 hours per week across Monday to Friday, for 1:1 care and support working in conjunction with another experienced MLSA.

Key duties include:
  • Supporting the child to safely access all areas of the curriculum and enhance pupil achievement
  • To assist in a range of support activities in relation to the child's needs such as safeguarding, care, health and wellbeing
  • To fully support the child's physical wellbeing through constant observation and completion of medical procedures
  • Assist with intimate personal care, including regular 'Intermittent Catheterising’ (training provided)
  • Safe moving and handling. This is a significant part of the role so personal physical wellness is important (training provided)
  • Assistance with medication and mealtime preparation (training provided)
  • Assist and support exercise using specialist equipment and stretches (training provided)
  • Liaise as necessary with the child's Group Tutor, Head of Year, the child's parents, SENDCo and other agencies as required
Person specification includes:
  • Good standard of Maths and English
  • Valid First Aid certificate or equivalent
  • Experience of working within an educational or care setting with young children or adults
  • Experience of working as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written

The usual hours will be 8.00 am to 1.30 pm weekdays during term time (including half an hour unpaid for lunch).
