Job summary

A leading global technology firm in Bournemouth is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support the shop floor and manage new product introduction projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years in the aerospace or mechanical industry, a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, and excellent communication skills. This full-time role involves driving design initiatives and ensures operational efficiency in a collaborative environment.

We have an opportunity within the The Global Repair and Overhaul Engineering (GROE) team for a Mechanical Engineer to join us at Honeywell, in Bournemouth Onsite, where you will be responsible for supporting the shop floor as an engineering function, creating new repairs and running new product introduction projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive various product design initiatives, including modifications, upgrades, and obsolescence, while overseeing customer and supplier investigations and test system design changes to enhance product performance and reliability.
  • Facilitate seamless product transitions and the integration of new repair processes at site locations, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with established standards.
  • Provide specialized design expertise for inquiries related to field failures, counterfeit parts, and product classification for export/import, as well as managing the Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
  • Assess engineering requests for non‑conforming parts and participate in value creation projects aimed at reducing manufacturing turnaround time and repair costs to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to communicate problem resolution updates related to supply chain issues, defect management, and warranty reviews, while leading initiatives for capital purchases and preparing project estimates and statements of work.

Key skills and qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, systems, or aerospace engineering, or equivalent experience, is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the aerospace or mechanical industry is essential.
  • Familiarity with commercial and military aircraft mechanical systems, power systems, environmental control systems, and aerospace hardware qualification is beneficial.
  • Strong self‑motivation with the ability to work independently, make timely decisions in complex situations, and communicate effectively on diverse engineering topics is crucial.
  • Experience in project management, understanding product/system configuration management, and the ability to learn and adhere to import/export regulations (EAR and ITAR) are valuable, along with the capability to mentor junior engineers.
