Purpose of the role

Business activity at Garmin Swansea has grown significantly over the past 12 months, placing increased demands on the Engineering function. To maintain our high standards and effectively support expanding production, we require an additional Mechanical Engineer to ensure operational efficiency and continued product excellence.

You will provide support to onsite production operations, ensuring efficiency, high-quality right-first-time assembly. Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, supporting the upkeep and development of existing products, mechanical systems, jigs, fixtures, and documentation, and works closely with production and process engineering teams.

Key Duties and responsibilities
  • Support the onsite production team by supporting, maintaining and improving existing production processes
  • Review and update mechanical CAD models, drawings, and associated documentation to ensure alignment with as-built lighting assemblies.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical or assembly issues identified on the production floor
  • Work collaboratively with process engineers to implement improvements that enhance assembly efficiency, product quality, and repeatability.
  • Support sourcing and qualification of alternative suppliers for mechanical components when required.
  • Assisting with control and implementation of engineering change in production processes
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on manufacturability and ease of assembly
  • Supporting an organised library of engineering data, drawings, and revision histories
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and manufacturing initiatives across the production process
  • Ensuring jigs all mechanical parts and assemblies are accurately represented in our CAD models and drawings
  • Maintaining and improving production jigs and fixtures
  • Monitor and update jigs and fixture tracker with progress reports
Education and Experience
  • BEng or HND with equivalent experience - Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (2 : 2 or above), or HND in Mechanical Engineering with equivalent appropriate experience - Required
  • 3D Cad , part , assembly and drawing creation - Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - Required
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar) - Required
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods such as machining, casting, and assembly processes - Desired
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and revision control - Required
  • Basic knowledge of materials, fasteners, and components - Required
  • Use of 3D printers and 3D printing techniques - Desired
  • ESD considerations, knowledge of and appropriate materials / practices - Desired
