Locomotive Fitter – Leeds – Permanent Position
Pay: £47,147 per year
Shift working – (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off)
Responsibilities
- Carry out general mechanical maintenance and repairs to all rolling stock rail vehicles on a variety of components such as air braking, hydraulic systems & diesel engines.
- Fault diagnosis and rectification on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Work to written maintenance instructions (VMI) to complete examinations and inspections of the trains you will be working with.
- Work to engineering drawings and diagrams.
Candidate – What You Need
- Previous experience in a similar role and environment.
- Experience carrying out maintenance and examination work in a heavy mechanical environment – e.g. forces REME, HGV, buses and coaches, aircraft, or big engineering machines or locomotive/rolling stock is especially welcome.
- Team player who can also work independently; problem solver with an aptitude to think on your feet and carry out a wide range of maintenance.
- Will be able to work early, late and night shifts.
- Must be able to pass a medical and drug and alcohol test.
Essential Criteria
- Experience in maintenance and fault finding within a transport / plant related engineering environment.
- Level 3 qualification, or equivalent, in an engineering / mechanical / electrical discipline.
- Ability to navigate engineering drawings, blueprints, and diagrams, written technical instructions and manuals and follow processes.
- Full UK driving licence or locality to the depot is essential.
- Must be able to pass a DBS criminal record check to be eligible for this role.
Salary and Benefits
- Base salary: £47,147
- Opportunity to learn to drive and shunt trains – extra £1,000 per annum (apply online only).
- Up to 6 training modules each worth an extra £1,500 per annum, giving potential earnings of £50,000 plus.
- Training modules to increase your salary include Shunter training and engineering modules from axle and bearings, electrical fault finding & mentoring.
