Job description
Position Summary

Mechanical Engineer

Salary D.O.E + On Call Allowance

Rota - 35 Hrs per week

Monday - Thursday 8.00 am - 4.30 pm

Friday 8.00 am - 1.00 pm

Out of hours callouts - rostered - 1 in 4 weeks (Paid at additional rate)

Overall responsibility: To be responsible for the maintenance and modification of all site mechanical services and equipment as directed by the Maintenance Manager. To carry out mechanical repairs, tests and reports as and when necessary, with a heavy emphasis on plumbing, pipe fitting and steam.

Responsibilities
  • To carry out mechanical repairs and improvements to Company properties, both on a responsive basis and strategic basis.
  • To carry out Mechanical tests and reports on company property and carry out the necessary repairs.
  • To carry out preventative planned maintenance and complete relevant job documentation.
  • To respond to reactive work orders and complete as necessary.
  • To promote customer satisfaction through the repair and improvements process.
  • To advise the facilities Manager re. future mechanical maintenance requirements, and any changes to Mechanical practice and legislation.
  • Installation of pipe work throughout site both copper and iron.
  • Responsible for the operation and monitoring of site boilers both oil and steam ( steam training can be provided).
  • Responsible for the operation and upkeep of this site biomass boiler.
  • Assist with training of new team members on department procedures.
  • Responsible for monitoring stock levels for all plumbing and pipe fitting and assist with stock takes.
  • Provide on call cover to ensure correct operation of systems and equipment out of normal working hours.
  • Complete specific tasks or projects as requested by the Facilities Manager or Maintenance Manager.
  • Promote good work practices and enhance working relationships.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement with an emphasis on sustainability.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations are always adhered to.
  • Where appropriate, be able to report leading and lagging indicators with regards to safety and health to the EHS team.
  • Ensure a safe and tidy work area.
  • Provide cover for other members of the team as and when necessary.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties that may or may not be related to the job as requested by the management.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Steam qualification / or equivalent time served
  • Some IT literacy
  • Experience of working in a busy environment to tight deadlines.
