Mechanical Engineer (Industrial Gearboxes) – Birmingham

£16.50 – £19.00 per hour + Overtime + Training + Benefits

Workshop-Based Role

A long-standing engineering company in Birmingham is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join their workshop team, focusing on the strip‑down, inspection, repair and rebuild of industrial gearboxes and rotating equipment. Prior gearbox experience is beneficial, but engineers with strong mechanical fitting or overhaul experience are also encouraged to apply.

The Role

This workshop-based position involves hands‑on mechanical engineering work, stripping and rebuilding a wide range of industrial gearboxes. You'll assess component condition, diagnose wear or failure, and carry out high‑quality repairs to return equipment to operational standard.

Ideal for someone with a background as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer, Workshop Engineer, or anyone experienced in mechanical strip‑and‑rebuild work.

  • Good understanding of tools, tolerances and mechanical principles
  • Gearbox experience preferred but not essential — full training available

Package
  • £16.50 - £19.00 per hour depending on experience
