Overview

Job title: Mechanical Design Engineer - Water Sector

Location: Reading

Hours: 36 hours per week (Hybrid working available)

Salary: £42,000-£55,000

A great opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a major water provider and support significant engineering programmes across AMP8 and beyond. You will contribute to robust mechanical design delivery, support technical assurance, and work closely with site teams to ensure assets perform to the highest standards.

This role offers exposure to a range of treatment process assets, plus the chance to help develop a strong internal engineering capability.

Responsibilities
  • Provide mechanical input into design activities, feasibility studies, asset assessments and optioneering
  • Support the development and improvement of technical standards
  • Undertake design sign-off and technical assurance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ensure engineering regulatory compliance is met
  • Contribute to the introduction of digital tools and smarter ways of working
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders
  • Support the growth of a Centre of Excellence for engineering capability
Skills & Experience
  • Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer or relevant equivalent
  • Experience delivering design, installation, or commissioning within water utilities
  • Strong understanding of UK water sector regulatory requirements
  • Confident working with a wide range of internal/external stakeholders
  • Practical approach to problem solving, including site investigations
  • Driving license - required
